Mitchell Trophy Semi Final  Bridge of Weir 1   Glasgow University 4

"Glasgow University scored a surprise but thoroughly deserved victory over Bridge of Weir in the replayed semi-final of the Mitchell Trophy competition at the Scottish Ice Rink, Crossmyloof, Glasgow last night. The game was fought on most determined lines from start to finish. Unfortunately, the actions of several players led to a squabble in the second period.

Glasgow University made little attempt at teamwork but their direct individual dashes and ready accurate shooting proved highly effective. K A Gray, who scored three of his side's goals, was particularly deadly in his finishing. Sound and relentless marking and checking both fore and aft together with magnificent goaltending from R S Milne foiled almost every effort by their opponents.

Despite scoring first, Bridge of Weir never really settled and while M D Brennan, W G McDonald and W S McLeod frequently excelled the side lacked much of its usual co-ordination and snap near goal. The fact that they conceded two goals in the closing period was largely due to their concentration on attack leaving them open to speedy counter-raids.

Brennan scored Bridge of Weir's goal but for the remainder of the first period, the University had much the greater share of the attack and D Edwards and Gray both came close to scoring. Two goals by Gray early in the second period gave the students the lead. Edwards and Gray added a goal each in the final period."
